Root CanalAn Overview
Root canals are an effective treatment for advanced tooth decay. Inwood dentist Dr. Kenneth Banks will always opt to preserve a natural tooth through root canal therapy whenever possible to help retain the natural bite and jaw structure.
Root canals are a routine procedure and most patients are surprised at how little discomfort they experience. Many patients find a root canal no more uncomfortable than a standard tooth filling. The pain many patients associate with root canals is actually the infection inside the tooth. Once the root canal is performed, most patients experience relief from their pain. In most cases, a root canal is completed during a single visit to our Inwood, WV dentist office.

Root Canal What to Expect
Dr. Banks will administer a local anesthetic before treatment to ensure optimal comfort. Our dental care team will make sure that the patient is comfortable and well informed of the root canal process so they feel confident in their procedure. Sedation dentistry options can be made available for the patient with dental anxiety.
Dr. Banks will begin by drilling a tiny hole into the back of the affected tooth. Then, using a special scraping tool, he will remove the infected pulp from inside the tooth. Once the infected material is completely removed, the tooth will be thoroughly cleaned and filled with a biocompatible material to help stabilize the tooth and to prevent further decay.
A dental crown may be required in some cases. Dr. Banks will custom design a dental crown to fit over your natural tooth. The dental crown helps to strengthen and protect the natural tooth. Dental crowns are made of high quality modern dental materials that look and feel like a natural tooth and will blend seamlessly with your natural smile.
